THE ERNE VINTAGE CAR RALLY

ILFA, Vintage car RallyIn 2008 the annual Erne Vintage and Classic Car Rally was dedicated to the memory of the late Raymond McCartney, founder Chairman and Honorary President of the Club.

Unfortunately, the weather was unkind but 170 cars and 400 visitors and members of the club descended on Enniskillen for a jam-packed weekend starting off with the Annual Charity Parade through the town. The parade was launched by Judith Wilson, Miss Northern Ireland 2008. Entertainment was in abundance with pipe, flute, traditional, jazz and rock bands along the route. The stilt- walkers, fire dancers, face painters and the many children who took part all added to the merriment.
The car rally started at the Killyhevlin Hotel and headed to Garrison via Marlbank. Relaxed and refreshed following lunch, the car enthusiasts continued their journey and took the scenic route to Belleek, over Boa Island on to Kesh, Raymond’s much loved home village to join their annual festival. The participants were treated to tea and scones in the Mayfly Inn and The Lough Erne Hotel who extended a very warm welcome to all.

ILFA, Vintage Car RallyThe organisers of the car rally are especially grateful to G.T.Exhausts, Killyhevlin Hotel, Kesh Development Association, the Mayfly Inn, The Lough Erne Hotel, George Jones of Clubsound, and Billy McFarland and his band

“This year’s annual rally of vintage and classic cars was dedicated to the memory of the late Raymond McCartney, founder Chairman and much loved Honorary President of the Erne Vintage Car Club. Friends came from all over Ireland to remember Raymond and have a wonderful, happy weekend. Thanks to everybody who turned out in the rain to support our chosen charities. Raymond would be proud.”
